Manchester Magic claimed a major win by ending the unbeaten record of Division One rivals Reading Rockets on Saturday.

In a battle between two top sides, the Magic took control of the game towards the end of the third quarter, when they built up a 14-point lead.

They went on to seal a 93-88 victory to keep themselves in touch with the early leaders.

Donte Gittens claimed 15 points, 12 assists and 7 rebounds for the Magic, with Stefan Gill (21 points), Ryan Lewis (16) and Michael Anumba (13) also making key contributions.

Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo and Tyme Regent-Bascombe also made a big impact off the bench as Magic recorded their third league win of the campaign.

Magic face a double header this weekend. They travel to Team Newcastle University on Saturday before facing Team Northumbria at home on Sunday (5pm tip).


Dominique Allen registered 9 points and 16 rebounds as Manchester Mystics beat visitors Barking Abbey London Lions 54-39 in the WBBL.

Georgia Jones (13 points), Rheanne Bailey (10) and Natalie Chaloner (9) were also on the scoresheet as the Mystics made it three wins from their opening five games to lie fourth in the table.

There is no game for the Mystics this weekend but Allen and Jones will be on Great Britain duty against Israel on Saturday at the National Basketball Performance Centre at Belle Vue.


Magic's U16 first team notched up a hat-trick of emphatic wins in the National League at the weekend, while there was an impressive double for the Mystics U16 second team.

The U16 boys kick-started their run of victories with a thumping 117-69 win over Premier North rivals Mansfield Giants before stepping up to U18 Conference level to beat Lancashire Spinners Bury 92-43. On Sunday, they made it win number three with a thumping 137-59 success at Stockport Falcons, again at U18 Conference level.

The Mystics U16 second team recorded a 59-37 win over Leicester Warriors on Saturday before chalking up a 83-45 victory over Lancashire Spinners on Sunday to move to second in the North table.

There were also wins for the Mystics U16 first team, who beat Surrey Goldhawks 53-40, and the Mystics U14 team, who crushed Lancashire Spinners 92-28.

Magic U18s were also on the winning trail, beating City of Leeds Basketball Academy 90-73, while Magic's U14 team defeated Premier North opponents Cheshire Wire 94-34.

But there were battling defeats for Magic's Division Four team (48-85) at Myerscough College II, Magic's U14 third team (48-55) at Manchester Giants, Trafford U16 (76-80) at home to Cheshire Phoenix Juniors, and Mystics U14 second team (36-48) at home to Stockport Lapwings II.
