The Weekend Wrap Week 13

  Sunday, December 17, 2017

It was a disappointing end to 2017 for the Senior Magic whose debut in the BBL Trophy ended in a 62-89 defeat against the Sheffield Sharks at the EIS Sheffield on Friday night and followed it up with a narrow 84-88 defeat to Derby Trailblazers on Saturday evening.

On Friday night the Magic were led by American Donte Gittens who scored 19 points, he followed that up with 20 points against Derby at the Amaechi Centre on Saturday.

It was Stefan Gill who sparked a remarkable come-back with the Magic trying to close a 20-point gap, unfortunately his fourth quarter heroics couldn't quite get the home side over the line. He would finish with 22 points. Gill had 14 points against Sheffield.

Michael Anumba continued to impress with 12 points against Sheffield and 14 points and 8 rebounds against Derby. Ryan Lewis had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds against Derby.

The Magic game against Loughborough due to be played on Saturday 6th January has been postponed due to their involvement in the re-arranged Cup Semi-Final against Hemel Storm, the winner of which Magic will face in the final, so their next game would be against Kent Crusaders on Saturday 13th January at 4:00pm.

National Cup Quarter Final action at the Amaechi Basketball Centre on Sunday saw Magic U18 earn a hard-fought 84-73 overtime victory against Myerscough College, while Magic U16 beat Ipswich 103-48, as both Magic sides advance to the National Cup Semi-Finals.

Mystics U18 picked up a 71-48 mid-week victory against Stockport Lapwings, they followed it up with a vital 63-44 victory over rivals City of Sheffield Hatters.

Magic 2 U14s beat local rivals Stockport Falcons 72-63 on the road.

Mystics U14 continued to impress with an 80-45 victory over Tameside Royals, while Mystics 2 U14 picked up their second win of the season, 60-53, against Tameside Royal Juniors.

There were loses for Magic 2 Seniors on the road at Newcastle Eagles U23 65-98, Magic U16 at Northamptonshire Titans 80-98, Mystics 2 U16 forfeited their game at Northants Lightning.

The National League teams are now on a break for Christmas, the Magic U18 and U16 will however, be in action at the Haris Memorial Tournament on the 27-29th December.
