Manchester Magic got back to winning ways with a 70-51 victory over Team Newcastle University at the Amaechi Basketball Centre on Saturday evening.

The Magic set the tone from the tip playing intense defence, which included two early blocks by Richard Bell and Lee Goldsbrough.

The game plan was clear, no easy buckets for the visitors and the Magic stuck to the plan for the majority of the game.

Richard Bell led all scorers with 21 points, adding 12 rebounds and a block. Donte Gittens had 12 points and 7 assists, Hamad Ali came to life to pour in 11 points, Ryan Lewis played every second of the contest scoring 8 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Michael Anumba had 8 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals off the bench. Lee Goldsbrough had 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks.

On Sunday afternoon the Magic travelled to Yorkshire to take on the Bradford Dragons, they made it two wins from two with a 91-84 victory, to move to 8-8 on the season and leap-frog the Dragons in the NBL Division 1 table, and moving ahead of Kent Crusaders on point difference into 7th place.

The Magic found their shooting form led by Ryan Lewis's 23 points (5 threes), Richard Bell had 16 points and 7 rebounds, Hamad Ali had 15 points, Donte Gittens has 14 points and 4 assists and Michael Anumba had 10 points. Lee Goldsbrough had 10 rebounds.

Up next the Magic is an away trip to face Hemel Storm on Saturday 24th February at 7:00pm, where the Magic will be looking to avenge the Cup Final defeat.


Great Britain senior women beat Israel 76-74 Wednesday in the EuroBasket 2019 Qualifiers to go 2-0 in this qualifying window. Georgia Jones played 24 minutes, 6 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists. Dominique Allen did not play.

Manchester Mystics beat Team Northumbria 72-60 at the National Basketball Performance Centre on Saturday afternoon to go 10-4 on the season, sitting in 3rd in the WBBL Championship table.

The Mystics were led by Samantha Roscoe's 20 points and 6 rebounds, with solid support from Georgia Jones (16 points) and Rheanne Bailey (12 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists). Dominique Allen had 7 points and 17 rebounds, Rachel James had 7 points and 9 rebounds and Isabel Bueriberi had 7 points and 6 rebounds.

The next game for the Mystics will be on Saturday 24th February against Caledonia Pride at 4:00pm at the National Basketball Performance Centre.


Magic 2 Seniors lost 87-74 at Calderdale Explorers.

Trafford U18 beat Preston Pride Orange 83-50 on Saturday, and the followed it up with an 85-46 victory at Tameside on Sunday. Trafford U16 beat Newcastle Eagles 60-57 at home.

Magic U18 lost 85-84 at Newcastle Eagles on Saturday, and also lost 57-52 at home to Derby Trailblazers on Sunday.

Mystics U18 beat Stockport Lapwings 80-32 at home. Mystics U14 beat Hatfield Fliers 54-39 on the road. Mystics U16 lost 63-49 at Brighton Cougars.

Magic U14 beat Leicester Riders 93-54 at home. Magic 2 U14 lost 76-54 at Liverpool. Magic 3 U14 best Oldham Eagles 88-68 on the road.
