Coach Jim's report:

Victories by 50+ points tend to be like tables with missing legs - heavily one-sided - with little gained by either side, especially if the dominant team press. Ironically, in Mystics U14 last two fixtures, which have been won by a total margin of 20 more than a maximum break at snooker (167 points), it has been our opponents who have pressed us

Our 112-14 win over a young, inexperienced Tameside White did give our less experienced team members licence to excel and that's precisely what they did. Anna, Jouna, Anita, Hannah and Saffron combined for a total of 53 points while two of our U13 players, Emily and Daisy added a further 31 between them, making the most of selfless opportunities provided by their captain.

By contrast, our 97-28 win against Newcastle Eagles was far more hard-fought than the scoreline suggests. Try as hard as they did, our opponents found it more difficult than making wet cellotape stick to an ice cube to thwart Mystics considerable fire power both inside and outside of the key, with 8 players, led by Olivia and Esha, in or very close to double figures thanks to some heads up plays from Daisy, Jo, Eleni and Ndeh. Nevertheless, the north-easterners did show poise on offense, moving the ball with more slickness than a jar of Brylcreem, only to fall short due to some wayward finishing and team defence from all 10 Mystics which was more unforgiving than any wife whose husband has forgotten their wedding anniversary.

Once again, it was Mystics' strength in depth, togetherness and willingness to share the basketball (which is not the case when cakes are involved!) which was so pleasing. Newcastle pressed us for much of the game but derived little or nothing from it, not because it was a poor press but because our guards have the skill, composure and court awareness to cope admirably with it.

Thanks to James, Sam, Jim, Karun, Mark and Lia for their help and to all our supporters for their............support.
