US College Update 2020

It's March, usual the time of year when US Colleges are in National Championship action, however, with the ongoing situation with the coronavirus the NCAA post-season has been cancelled. So, we’re bringing you this update of our former Manchester Magic and Mystics junior players currently out in the USA playing at various Colleges with some players schedules forever incomplete and left wondering what might have been.

Michael Anumba (Sophomore) at Winthrop University (NCAA Division 1 - Big South) Record: 24-10

Season stats: Played 33 games, 31 starts, 23.8 minutes per game, 6.8 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game, 0.9 assists per game, 0.8 steals per game, 0.1 blocks per game.

Winthrop University won 106-70 against USC Upstate in the Big South Championship Quarter-Finals. Michael, started and played 23 minutes, had 13 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist.

Winthrop University won 78-66 against Garner-Webb in the Big South Championship Semi-Finals. Michael, started and played 32 minutes, had 5 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal.

Winthrop University won 76-68 against Hampton in the Big South Championship Final to be crowned Big South Champions. Michael, started and played 22 minutes, had 5 points and 1 rebound.

Winthrop University qualified for what would have been the NCAA Division 1 Tournament as Big South champions.

Gina Brierley (Senior) Saint Leo University (NCAA Division 2 - SSC) Record: 15-15

Season stats: Played 29 games, 27 starts, 34.0 minutes per game, 8.3 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game, 0.8 steals per game, 0.1 blocks per game.

Saint Leo University won 76-55 against Nova Southeastern in the SSC Championship Quarter-Finals. Gina, started and played 38 minutes, had 15 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

Saint Leo University lost 57-72 to Tampa in the SSC Championship Semi-Finals. Gina, started and played 39 minutes, had 7 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Kaiyem Cleary (Sophomore) at Florida Southern University (NCAA Division 2 - SSC) Record: 29-2

Season stats: Played 1 game before getting injured and missing out the rest of the season. Played 16 minutes, 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Florida Southern University won 97-80 against Lynn in the SSC Championship Quarter-Finals.

Florida Southern University won 80-77 against Embry Riddle in the SSC Championship Semi-Finals.

Florida Southern University won 118-109 against Nova Southestern in the SSC Championship Final to be crowned SSC Champions.

Florida Southern University qualified for the NCAA Division 2 Regional Championships as SSC Champions.

Jessica Eadsforth-Yates (Junior) Davis and Elkins College (NCAA Division 2 - Mountain East) Record: 7-22

Season stats: Played 28 games, 25 starts, 23.3 minutes per game, 8.1 points per game, 1.9 rebounds per game, 1.5 assists per game, 0.6 steals per game, 0.1 blocks per game.

Davis and Elkins College lost 60-69 to Wheeling in the MEC Championship Quarter-Finals. Jessica started, played 21 minutes, had 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Aaron Menzies (Senior) Saint Mary's College - CA (NCAA Division 1 - WCC) Record: 26-8

Season stats: Played 22 games, 2 starts, 5.3 minutes per game, 2.5 points per game, 1.7 rebounds per game, 0.3 assists per game, 0.0 steals per game, 0.2 blocks per game.

Saint Mary's College won 89-82 against Pepperdine in the WCC Championship Quarter-Finals. Aaron did not play.

Saint Mary's College won 51-50 against BYU in the WCC Championship Semi-Finals. Aaron did not play.

Saint Mary's College lost 68-84 against Gonzaga University in the WCC Championship Final. Aaron did not play.

We’ll never know if Saint Mary’s College would have been selected for the NCAA Division 1 Tournament.

Harriet Swindells (Junior) Barry University (NCAA Division 2 - SSC) Record: 9-18

Chloe Andrew (Freshman) University of Northwestern Ohio (NAIA D2 WHAC) Record: 10-20

Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo (Freshman) University of Regina (Canada West) Record: 15-18

University of Regina lost 98-86 to Lethbridge in the Canada West Championship play-in game. Arinze did not play.

Wesley Oba (Freshman) University of Sioux Fall (NCAA D2 NSIC) Record: 22-8

Wesley did not play.

University of Sioux Fall won 79-68 against Minot State in the NSIC Championship first round.

University of Sioux Fall lost 59-60 to Minnesota State University – Mankato in the NSIC Championship Quarter Final.

Ben Gordos (Freshman) De Anza College (CCCAA - Coast) Record: 13-15

Niamh Kelshaw (Freshman) McCook Community College (NJCAA D1 R9) Record: 22-10

Lucy Threlfall (Freshman) Georgia Highlands College (NJCAA D1 - GCAA) Record: 21-10
