Mystics U18s and Academy gets new head coach

  Wednesday, July 29, 2020

The Manchester Mystics have appointed Paul Cantwell as the new head coach of their Academy and U18 teams.

The former pro player, who has coached in the US and Europe, led the club’s U12 boys’ development programme last season.

Paul will continue to play an important role at all levels within the club, but his primary focus will be lifting the girls’ Academy and U18 programmes to new heights.

“I am extremely excited to be taking over,” said Cantwell. “We have a lot of talent coming through and we believe we can take this programme to the next level.”

The Mystics were U18 Cup semi-finalists in 2020 and were well set to make another Final Fours charge before COVID-19 ended the season prematurely earlier this year.

At Academy level, they made the WEABL play-offs in 2019/20 with a very young team and have recruited a strong squad for the coming campaign.

“Paul will bring his enthusiasm and expertise to the top end of the girls’ programme and I wish him all the best in this important role for the club,” said Mystics co-founder Joe Forber.
