Anumba on fire as Magic dominate Leopards

  Monday, October 24, 2016

Simon Anumba top scored with 30 points and eight rebounds as Manchester Magic beat the Essex Leopards 80-60 on Sunday at the Brentwood Centre.

The Leopards, who had recently strengthened their line up with the addition of American guard AJ Roberts, struggled to cope with the Magic's fire power in the first quarter, with the visitors finishing with a 4-24 lead.

The home side found their shooting form in the second stanza but, thanks largely to 22 first-half points from Anumba, the Magic went in to the halftime break 24-39 up.

Magic struggled to maintain their control in the third, with the hosts closing the gap to 44-51.

But the visitors reasserted their dominance in the final period, with a series of threes from Jack Minister and Stefan Gill helping guide the team to a 20-point victory.

Ryan Lewis had his most impressive game so far since joining the team in the summer with a solid double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Lee Goldsbrough had 10 points and eight rebounds, while Stefan Gill added 10 points and five assists.

Next up for the Magic is an away trip to Leicester Warriors on Saturday, 29th October, at 3pm, followed on Sunday by a trip to NBL Division Three North side Team Birmingham Elite in round four of the National Cup at 4:30pm.
